Charter Renewal Information
What is a charter renewal?
The California Department of Education requires all charter schools to renew every 5 to 7 years. A charter renewal authorizes a charter school to continue operating. The charter school must submit a Renewal Petition. Based on the petition and the school’s performance over the past term, the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) Board must vote to approve or deny the petition.
*The OUSD Board will be voting to approve or deny AIMS Middle School and AIMS High School in the Fall of 2026/2027 school year.
AIMS is partnering with Families in Action (FIA) on this upcoming renewal campaign.
Why you should get involved!
The renewal ensures your child receives a high-quality education at a school you trust. If the charter renewal is denied, AIMS may have to appeal to the Alameda County Office of Education (ACOE) for a renewal, significantly impacting your child’s education.
What we need:
Volunteers to be an AIMS Charter Renewal Lead Team to lead training and engagement.
Spread your positive AIMS story: Encourage other parents and community members to support the renewal.
Attend parent training sessions hosted by Families in Action (FIA) to prepare for meetings with OUSD board members.
Attend the public hearing: Show your support in person and leave a public comment in the OUSD Board meetings.
Write to the OUSD Board: Express why AIMS is important for your child's education.
For more information:
We will be hosting Town Halls and inviting Board Members to events at the school.
