Welcome!

Welcome AIMS K-12 students, parents, teachers, staff, and community supporters! Thank you for all your hard work in making the first half of the school year run as smoothly as possible. As we enter the holiday season, I am reminded that we, as a community, are blessed. We all may not have everything we need or want, but we have each other and the ability to keep growing and improving. I am thankful for you all and the trust you place in AIMS. 2022 brought AIMS many positive changes you will read about in this newsletter. A preview is that we have increased our staffing and fine-tuned our operations to better support our students. The feedback from our students and community is that they are happy to be in our schools and appreciate the support we give. Here is to greater success in 2023!

IN THIS ISSUE

Safety and Compliance

We worked with the Alameda County Office of Education and the Williams Act to make sure AIMS campuses are safe environments for everyone. I am proud to report that port, that AIMS did well.
As part of the AIMS Safe School Plan and in compliance with the California Code of Regulations and Safe School Plan, staff had professional development training for essential fire and safety drills. Faculty have all the proper first aid and communication devices and a designated waiting area for students. Our safety plans can be requested from our Facilities Department.

The New Structure of the Central Office

At Boot Camp in August, the Superintendent reminded all employees that this year our theme is "the top of one mountain is the bottom of the next, so we need to keep climbing on behalf of our students." Special Education

AIMS K-12 is now our own SELPA in conjunction with the El Dorado SELPA.  Under this initiative, all AIMS teachers and staff will be equipped to work with students with disabilities. Our special education team will use the SST (Student Support Team) model and offer 30-day 504 or IEP plans for qualifying students. We will use the pull-out approach for 1:1 and small group instruction and the push-in method for in-class assistance with instructional aides. This move allowed us to utilize our Special Education funding better to serve AIMS students directly. You may learn more about this change by clicking here for our special education website.

English Language Learners and Newcomers Support

AIMS ELD students have been issued iPads to carry along with them for direct translation services so they can translate in class and during other interactions with peers and staff. Our parents and guardians of English Language Learners can also use language line interpreters for phone or zoom calls.

Nutrition Programs

This year, AIMS will be offering FREE breakfast, snack and lunch for every student regardless of income as part of California’s Universal Meals Program. We strive to provide healthy and nutritious meals served with fruit and milk. We offer alternatives for students with special nutritional needs and medical considerations. You can find our December meal plan and fill out a food accommodation form here.

Awards and Recognitions

All three AIMS schools won the distinguished CAPP (California Pivotal Practices) Award from the California Department of Education for innovative practices through distance learning. We commend students and teachers for their off-campus engagement. We were pleased to keep the AIMSK12 standard strong by ensuring each student had access to technology as well as nutritious meals while off campus. We focused on social-emotional wellness with group zoom events. Our High School President, Annie Chiu, encouraged students to fight against injustice by throwing a United Against Hate Rally for AAPI heritage month.

Congratulations to our student winners of the National Recognition Award from the College Board for their academic achievement and outstanding performance on the PSAT/NMSQT/AP Exams. Esperanza Oden, Esrom Abraham, Haran Tekle, Kalkidan Mengesha, Nimrod Bariagabr, Sydney Raines and Ubadinaobi Egeonu were last year's winners!

AIMS encourages parents to work with the schools and engage in their students' education to provide students with a supportive and collaborative learning environment.
