Regarding School Closure & Distance-learning Launches

Dear AIMS Community:
Following on statements and direction from the Governor of California to the Superintendent of Schools for Alameda County, I am writing to inform you that, due to the coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic, all AIMS K-12 College Prep Charter District schools must suspend in-person instruction for the remainder of this academic year.
I appreciate that this may feel overwhelming. It is a very difficult time for all of our community members. We have a page on our website where you can get updates, and we will send out additional news and resources the moment we have them. For now:
AIMS has developed an Online Distance Learning Plan that outlines our plan and procedures for online instruction.
In lieu of physical classes, each site will operate as normal within their regular bell schedules using district-approved online virtual learning platforms.
Chromebooks and other learning materials will be provided to all students as needed to ensure that their educational needs are being met
IEP / SPED / ELD / Counseling services will still continue for the year, and those teachers will be contacting impacted students and families.
Each school site will document daily student attendance. It is very important that your students attend their online classes on time daily, and complete all assigned work.
There is a plan for grading; the heads of each school will be sending out further information regarding this.
Plans for graduation are currently being discussed, which will include plans for physical and virtual engagements for our scholars at a later date.
School culture and community are important components of students’ lives. Each school will be hosting online social activities.
Supervisors will be in communication with all staff regarding responsibilities during this time while working remotely or ensuring proper social distancing to comply with both the law and best public health practices.
If you are facing a challenging economic situation due to the current crisis (e.g. loss of income from your job or small business), facing rent/mortgage/eviction challenges, dealing with student or other debt pressure, you should request support from The Oakland REACH Relief fund, and there are useful resources on the OUSD website as well as the City of Oakland COVID-19 website and from Oakland Enrolls.
Some good news:
Free Internet: We worked with other partner organizations to push Comcast to waive the usual financial eligibility requirements for free Internet for two months during this crisis. We must do all we can to ensure good access to the Internet to ensure continued learning and engagement opportunities.
Virtual Recognition for Our Kids: While it won’t be the same as a big, in-person awards ceremony, on April 22, from 4-5:30 AIMS High School will be honored for our A-G completion rates by Families in Action for Quality Public Education and Energy Convertors. That may seem less important in light of all that’s going on, but we feel it is important to continue to celebrate AIMS achievements during this time.
At this time of the year, we were all supposed to have been on Spring Break, resting and recovering from the first part of the year and preparing for a strong finish to our academic year. The world has changed. However, we are ready to adapt, persevere, and do our part to support one another and the health of our overall community. We’re stronger together - and together we’re AIMSTRONG!

Sobre el cierre de escuelas y lanzamientos de educación a distancia

Estimada comunidad de AIMS:
