AIMS District Celebrates 2021 Graduation with Drive-in Ceremonies
AIMS celebrates another year of academic excellence and 100% college acceptance

Oakland, Calif. – June 14, 2021 AIMS College Prep Charter District will be celebrating their 2021 Elementary, Middle, and High School graduating classes with drive-in ceremonies. This year’s High School graduation ceremony will be held on Thursday, June 17, at 4PM at the AIMS Lakeview campus parking lot. AIMS continued to thrive through COVID-19, meeting the needs of all students, and helping them reach their goals of graduation and college acceptance. AIMS is celebrating another year of 100% 4-year college and university acceptance. In addition to the live streamed drive-in graduation, this year’s graduates received AIMS letterman jackets and participated in a virtual College Signing day modeled after the NBA and NFL Draft.

KTVU 2 News Anchor Claudine Wong will act as this year’s Special Guest Speaker. Speakers will also include Superintendent Maya Woods-Cadiz, principal Maurice Williams, and this year’s Valedictorian, Parneet Virk. Parneet, who is AIMS’ first Valedictorian from the AAPI community,  maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout her high school career, and has been accepted to UCLA.

“We’re proud to celebrate another graduating class of seniors who represent all that AIMS stands for,” says Superintendent Maya Woods-Cadiz. “The COVID-19 pandemic brought challenges that we overcame together as a District, and our students excelled academically. I’m confident that our seniors are leaving us with the values that we instilled in them, and the tools to face obstacles with strength and positivity.”

AIMS is known for its academic excellence and comprehensive college preparation, and students begin to take AP level classes in their freshman year. AIMS is committed to ensuring that all students receive the necessary resources needed to succeed, regardless of their socio-economic background. The school covers the costs for SAT and ACT Test preparation, as well as fees for college applications.

A nationally recognized, award-winning charter school district, AIMS K-12 College Prep continues to raise the bar every year. This year, 26 AIMS High School students received scholarships from Oakland Promise. Seniors Annie Chiu, Calvin Duong, Samantha Li, Faben Tesfazion, and Christopher Wali were inducted as inaugural members of the AIMS HS National Honor Society.

In 2020, AIMS was pronounced the Hart Vision Award Winner for Northern California School of the Year, was named a Top A-G Quality School, and was once again recognized by Innovate Public schools as a Top Bay Area public school. In the 2020 Innovate Public Schools report, AIMS Elementary was the only school recognized for making significant achievements in math and English language arts readiness for low-income African American students in the Bay Area. AIMS Middle School was the only school recognized for achievements in math and one of two schools in English language arts for low-income African American students in the Bay Area.

AIMS K-12 College Prep Charter District was founded in Oakland in 1996, and serves approximately 1300 students. AIMS strives to cultivate a community of diverse learners who achieve academic excellence. Their commitment to high expectations in attendance, academic achievement, and character development results in their students being prepared for lifelong success.
