HIGH SCHOOL MATH PLACEMENT POLICY

In response to Senate Bill No. 359, AIMS College Prep High School (AIMS HS) has developed “a fair, objective, and transparent mathematics placement policy” for pupils beginning with the 2016-17 school year.  As a matter of equity, AIMS HS does not offer singular placement criteria for students to become enrolled in their math classes.  

Instead, as part of the AIMS Model, AIMS HS will utilize every effort to accelerate advanced students, including incorporating Geometry concepts into all 9th grade math courses, while simultaneously providing critical interventions and support to students with significant gaps in their historic math performance.  We consider a variety of factors when making math placements. AIMS will meet students where they are at to mitigate math frustration levels and to ensure that 100% of its students achieve academic mastery in their math courses.
