AIMS Addresses Recent Graffiti and Reiterates Commitment to Inclusion
Oakland, CA —AIMS K–12 College Prep Charter District reports that three instances of antisemitic graffiti were recently found on exterior walls near the AIMS K–8 campus. In each case, the Director of Operations removed the graffiti within hours. While quickly covered, photos circulated on social media and community members understandably expressed concern.
“AIMS stands firmly against all forms of hate, discrimination, and intolerance,” said Marco Menéndez, Interim Executive Director. “These acts do not reflect who we are. We’re responding with transparency, education, and unity—reaffirming that respect, understanding, and belonging are the foundation of our school community.”
AIMS has shared security footage with the Oakland Police Department and is cooperating fully with the investigation. Safety protocols have been reinforced, and the district will continue working with city partners to ensure students and staff feel secure and supported.
As an educational response, AIMS will hold schoolwide lessons on the impact of hate speech, empathy and allyship, and how students can help build an inclusive climate. Counseling and support will be available to anyone who wishes to talk.
Looking ahead, AIMS will channel its walls into a positive outlet through the AIMS 30th Anniversary Mural Project, celebrating world cultures under the theme “Learning Together and Rising Together.” The project will highlight the importance of global cultures and demonstrate how art can be a powerful, inclusive force in the community.
